Despite the mammoth leap in the academic field, the society is witnessing all sorts of conflicts, rape, murder, violence and what not.  Why has education failed? What is the missing link in our present education system? What is that education that will bring man’s life to fulfilment?

These were some thought-provoking themes developed by the Spiritual Master, Swami Paramananda during a talk addressed to approximately 230 students coming from several secondary schools of the Northern zone, held at Goodlands on 22 June 2010 from 10:30 to 12:00 hrs. The Master said that education today tells us to control our emotions and to change our mindset but does not show us the way to achieve these.

Swamiji stated that Self-Education, which is the science of meditation, complements the missing link. Self-Education teaches us the very purpose of our existence. It is the flowering of the mind and the heart. Swamiji further explained how both suppression and expression of emotions are detrimental and that Self-Education alone provides the ideal means to deal with emotions.

Swamiji pointed out that generally children are not genuinely intelligent but are merely blind followers. They do not think deeply, reason and question. They should develop a revolutionary mind. The Master kindled the curiosity of the students through challenging questions like where is the mind situated; what is there between life and death; their opinion on predictions on 2012; whether life should stagnate with eating, drinking and working till one grows old and dies – is this what we call life? The Master used a striking example of the seed blooming into a tree to show how the gross love experienced between two lovers can blossom into pure love.

Swamiji responded to a maximum of questions addressed by the audience; but due to time constraint, he offered to answer those unattended via email.

To conclude, the Master laid emphasis on meditation, saying that meditation alone can save the world. So, let us dare to question ourselves – are we happy with our life trend or do we want to explore undeveloped avenues to become an accomplished human being?
