The spiritual master, H. H. Swami Paramananda, gave a talk on Self-Education at Saddul College, Vacoas (Mauritius) on Wednesday 24th February from 11:00 to 12:30 hrs. Some 150 students aged between 17 to 20 yrs attended the session with much interest.

The master explained to the students that true education is much more than about obtaining a certificate for a job. It encompasses every aspect of our life and deals with our whole being. He led them to reflect on whether the academic education makes them a good human being, whether it helps them develop all their potentials and most importantly whether it helps them realise their inner self.

While academic education has its importance, Swamiji introduced Self-Education – the holistic approach to education. Man is yet to be born as a human being, he said. He further revealed that man has seven bodies and seven chakras or centres of energy. But most people live on the lowest centre, which is related to sex.

Swamiji then explained about sex energy, in particular that it can be used to expand one’s consciousness. All people have taken birth with sex energy, no one can deny that – a Jesus, a Mohammed, a Krishna, all were made with that energy and there lies its greatness and importance, stated the enlightened one. The students were dumbfounded to hear such naked truths about sexuality and that too from a Swami! It was so far from the lessons of morality and do’s and don’ts that they had expected!

They did not hesitate to ask more about Swamiji’s views on many topics closely related to their life such as: What are your views on the sexual life of youngsters aged 15 to 18 yrs? Do you believe that adolescence is the best phase of a person’s life?

Swami Paramananda responded to their questions very scientifically and logically to the great satisfaction of the audience.
