Is the public prepared?

Humans beings are not machines, therefore they cannot be controlled or regulated by laws. But unfortunately, modern education, religion and society as a whole have reduced mankind to a machine, therefore law becomes necessary. However, fundamentally, we remain human beings; we are both human and machine, thus the conflict. Without laws we are barbarous, but then laws suppress us and make us become slaves and robots. We are indeed in a mess.

If people were really awakened and thus responsible – only awakened people can be responsible – then we would not need any law. But are we awakened? No! With our present conditionings, if we remove all the laws in our society, then the situation will become unimaginably chaotic. Legalise gandia, Subutex, abortion or any other social sickness and the situation will be catastrophic. No, I am not a moralist or a religious leader. In fact, I belong to no religion for I am beyond religions. I simply want to say that people are not prepared for that.

If they are educated in the true sense of the word, not simply possess bookish knowledge about good and bad, but rather are really awakened, then where does the question of legalising or not legalising come in? My whole emphasis is on awakening the individual’s consciousness. Unconsciousness is the root cause of all known evils and conflicts. No law has ever diminished even by an iota the level of unconsciousness of a person. Yes, out of fear, people can try to control and suppress their emotions, moods and thoughts that motivate them to act irresponsibly, but their mentality or attitude remains the same. But it seems that there are some deaf, cowardly, ignorant but arrogant people at the top.

Society is against the awakening of the intelligentsia because it is not in the interest of most people. This is why there has never been any political will to truly educate people. When I say political, I include religious leaders and all those who are related to them. Of course, the slumbering and illusion-loving populace does not want to be awakened. Who wants to face reality?

There is a psychological point in giving people much freedom – there is little or no resistance. The first couple ate the apple because they were prohibited from doing so. Tell a child or even an adult not to do something and you have challenged his curiosity. However, freedom in the hands of unconscious people is dangerous. They can turn anything into a habit, an obsession or an attachment and that is to my mind the real problem.

So what is the way out? As I have always said, virtue should be a spontaneous overflow of a transformed mind. The present mind is not only sick, but is a sickness itself. Hegel has said, “The mind is a disease.” This is what mystics have always said.

Neither legalisation nor prohibition is a solution. If there are any courageous people at the top who can hear me, my message is to start teaching people (right from school) the art of becoming more conscious through the science of mind transformation. I know that fanaticism born from ignorance, the jealousy and arrogance of many will create obstacles in such an endeavour. That is why I have said we need courageous leadership. Unfortunately, leaders are seldom courageous.

My proposal is not about inculcating knowledge but rather leading people to experience. Mind change is something experimental, not theoretical. If we really wish to do something positive, then everyone should be taught the science of mentality change. Very few attempts are made to that end and in most cases they are amateurish, thus failures. Schools dispense only academic, technical and scientific knowhow; religion is a total failure, not to mention politics. The world over, we have only a few people doing some effort to achieve that aim. The world is full of knowledgeable people and they are under the illusion that they know everything.

People are not only full of knowledge but of so much madness that it is very difficult for them to listen to what the awakened one has to offer. They are very far away from truth and are much unconscious; in fact, they live in different world. Therefore, the idea of a change in mind or mind transformation seems Greek or alien. They find laws so much easier to change.
