The Society for Dissemination of Self Education (SDSE), an affiliate of the Student Union of the University of Mauritius, organised a one hour talk at the UOM Complex on Tuesday 26th of January 2010. It was on a much probing theme as “Sex: Breaking the Taboo”.photo1 300x240 Talk on “Sex: Breaking the Taboo” at the University of Mauritius
The SDSE invited H. H. Swami Paramananda, author of the well acclaimed book “Sex: Breaking the Taboo,” to discourse on this prominent subject. After all, who can elucidate us on such an important yet ‘delicate’ subject as sex other than a Swami – one who is master of one’s Self and from whom nothing is a secret! The discourse was highly welcomed and appreciated by an audience of about 90 students and staff members. Indeed, his openness coupled with the logical and scientific manner which Swamiji approached the subject captured the attention of the audience from the start to the end.

At the very beginning of the talk, Swamiji explained that a group of people chose to keep the masses in ignorance with the underlying motive of manipulating them. Despite the fact that man is made up of the sexual energy from head to toe yet there is much mystery enveloping the subject.

Subsequently innumerable problems pertaining to sex have cropped up in society, for instance, adultery. Swamiji revealed that the crux of adultery lies in people not being fully satisfied and as well as being frustrated, resulting in their seeking for this pleasure and satisfaction out of wedlock, and thus, causing many cases of divorce.

Swamiji emphasised that the sexual energy is not only meant for procreation or enjoyment but has a higher purpose – it can be utilised for the expansion of one’s consciousness which at present is very limited – only 4.5 % as per psychology. The expansion of consciousness is possible only through the sublime science of meditation which alone can bring full awareness.

Intrigued by the lofty secrets unveiled during the talk, thirsty for more clarification and wisdom from such an enlightened being, some students requested for another talk and an interactive session on the same theme.

On a concluding note let us ponder on this great gem from Swamiji –

Virtue blossoms when the plant has grown up and starts emanating perfume, hence “Lust is the seed, feeling is the plant, love is the flower, and enlightenment is the fruit.”

As the Master says – the Choice is ours, energy is ours; we can decide whether we will preserve it for higher attainment or will allow it to waste out.
